What is URWintek

URWintek is the high-speed wireless and wired network deployed in each unit of every tenant occupied building in the Purdue Village (PVIL). Each living room space in every unit has a Cisco Access Point that delivers the URWintek service.

What are the wireless technical specifications?

URWintek is supported on both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wireless frequencies with the SSID of “URWintek”. URWintek-Gaming also supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wireless frequencies.

Will my devices work with the wireless network?

All devices that support 2.4Ghz and/or 5Ghz wireless frequencies will work on the wireless network. Your device must also support username and password authentication in order to access the wireless network (Please see below for information on how to connect your gaming or smart device). If your device has the option of selecting either the 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz frequency, it is recommended that you use the 5Ghz option as this will result in better overall performance.

How do I access the wired ethernet data jacks?

On the bottom of the Cisco Access Point (with the Wintek logo in the living room), there are two (2) wired ports labeled “LAN2 and LAN3”. Each of these ports follows the 10/100/1000BASE-T standard. You may use these ports for wired devices. You will need a standard Cat5E or Cat6 Ethernet cable to connect your device to these ports. If you cannot physically access these ports please contact us for assistance.

Can I bring my own Wireless Router?

Yes, however it is STRONGLY recommended that you do not. By using your own wireless router connected to one of the wired data ports, you will broadcast another wireless network which will interfere with the overall wireless performance of the URWintek wireless service. You will not only cause potential wireless problems for yourself, but for others as well.

How can I connect my gaming or smart devices?

If the gaming device, console, or smart device (Alexa, Roku, iHome, Apple TV etc.) supports a wired ethernet connection, it is STRONGLY recommended that you connect this to one of the available wired ports on the Cisco Access Point in the living space of your unit. If you prefer to have your gaming console or smart device connected via wireless, please do the following.

  • Go to the Gaming page and submit the MAC address of the console or smart device. We will manually add the MAC address of the device or console to our system and it will be authenticated, no password will be needed. If you need help locating the MAC address of your console, please refer to the manufacturer instructions or refer to the PDF guide on our Gaming page.
  • Use the “URWintek-Gaming” SSID for wireless connectivity. The “URWintek” SSID will not work for your gaming console or smart device.

Note: URWintek and URWintek-Gaming wireless networks do not support Chromecast devices.

How do I connect to Purdue remotely to access network resources?

You will be able to access the resources just like if you were on campus connected to PAL.

BoilerTV Streaming

You will be able to stream BoilerTV with the Stream2 app on your device while connected at the Purdue Village. Please refer to this website for details on how to connect and use this service.

Please note that Wintek is not able to support BoilerTV directly. Any questions about the service or service issues should be referred to BoilerTV.

My Purdue Network credentials are not working

Wintek does not have access to support and make changes to your Purdue username and password. Please go to the following website for support related to username and password issues or contact ITaP directly.

How do I get support?

Please do NOT contact ResNet or ITaP for technical support related to your connection at PVIL, as they will not be able to help you. URWintek technical support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at the following number: 765-269-8580. You can also submit a trouble ticket online at http://www.urwintek.com/support. Monday thru Friday, 8am-5pm, there will be a live person available to help you. After 5pm and on the weekends, if you need to speak with a live person, you will leave a message and the EOC (Engineer on Call) will respond to you within 2 hours.

How do I access Academic Journals through URWintek?

EZProxy is a tool that will allow you to access the Libraries eResources from off-campus just as if you were on campus. When you see the login screen, you are being asked to log in to EZProxy using your career account and password.

While on URWintek:

  • Go to the Purdue Libraries homepage at https://www.lib.purdue.edu
  • Select: Database at the “Browse” prompt
  • Search for IEE and click on the link
  • You will be directed to the login page where you will log in with your Purdue Career account information.

It is important to follow the above steps and not bypass the above noted library links. Attempting to access IEEE directly will result in a connection failure.
